Red Shiso (Aka- shiso) is similar to Green Shiso, but is a little less aromatic and has a spicier cinnamon/clove taste. It can be used as a natural red food coloring and is used to make Japanese pickled sour plums (umeboshi), as well as other Japanese pickles. Red shiso is also used in a beautifully pink and delicious summer heat-beating drink.
